St. Croix River Crossing

Stillwater, MN

The new bridge carries four lanes of traffic and a 12’ wide pedestrian/bicycle path connecting the two states.  Three overlooks provide splendid views of the St. Croix valley and Stillwater.

The main spans use precast post tensioned segmental girders with rounded soffits reinforced by cable stays from the towers.  The Minnesota approaches and interchange ramps are also precast post tensioned segmental girders with rounded soffits.  Piers on the Minnesota side are shaped to resemble the towers but of course at a much smaller size.

The project is being constructed under a design-bid-build procurement in which both the final design and the construction plans were prepared by the engineering team with aesthetic advice from Mr. Gottemoeller.
